Birky Family Farms Country Market and Birky’s Catering and Banquets are excited to be hosting the 2nd annual “Love Thy Neighbor hood” South County Country BBQ Cook Off, Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Malden Elevator’s grass yard from 3 - 6 p.m.

A new addition this year will be a pie baking contest.  This year's category is apple pie.  Ashley Duttlinger will be organizing this contest.  Contact Birky's Market at 219-462-4150.

Tickets are free for ages 2 and under.

Cook off participants, registered vendors within the communities of Morgan and Pleasant Townships, will bring their grills, pop up a tent, and show off their talents to cook pork on the grill, all with hopes of being the 2010 South County Pork BBQ Master.

We will also be having a raffle that day. Tickets will be $5 for some great prizes.  If you would like to donate a prize please contact Birky's Market at 219-462-4150.

Come come join the fun and participate in the delicious taste-testing process of picking this year’s winning country pork BBQ master.

Tickets will only be sold at the gate and are $7 for adults and $5 for children ages 3-10 years old.  Ticket holders will receive a plate with grilled baked beans, corn bread, cookies and lemonade prepared by Birky’s Catering and Banquets. Birky's Market will have their draft RootBeer as well. Then they can visit each vendor’s booth and get a sample of pork to taste and consider for their vote. Please bring extra dollar bills to cast your vote.

While not participating in the competitive portion of the cook-off, Birky Family Farms will roast a whole hog for the event. Several corn bag toss games will be set up as well.  The Malden Jug Band will also be present.

In an effort to build community unity and support, 100 % of the proceeds from the event will be donated between Morgan Township School, Kouts School, Morgan Fire Department, Kouts Fire Department and a portion held for needs that arise throughout the next year. This is a non-smoking event and alcohol is not permitted on premises.
